My life consists around this certain band. Yeah, their name is Queen. They’re pretty damn amazing. Not a day goes by without me thinking of them. Oh, and their lead singer, Freddie Mercury, I absolutely adore him. Words honestly cannot describe my love and devotion for him.

I sometimes get asked how I got into Queen, so I’ll explain all of it here. My love of Queen stems back to when I was much younger. I’d always been into them and appreciated their music. However, I was only aware of such classics as Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, Somebody To Love and Another One Bites The Dust. The obsession has been building up ever since. When I was about 11 or 12, I learnt how to play the guitar work in Bohemian Rhapsody (I’ve played guitar ever since I was 10). I was SO determined to perfect the guitar work and I remember being so intrigued by the complexity of the song. As a result, I replayed the song over and over again and never ever got sick of it. Mind you, I was aware of Bo Rhap before thanks to Wayne’s World ;) But any who, I started listening to more of their other well known stuff after that, but after a while it kinda got shelved and I carried on without them (I know, how is that even possible?!). Then about two years ago, I chose to sing Somebody To Love (I know, it was challenging) for my end of year singing performance and, of course, I had to do my research. So once again I was back into Queen. But, alas, it got shelved again…

Then FINALLY in October of 2011, I was hooked! Roger would’ve been proud of the circumstances as well! I was at the dentist one day just for a check up and he had a TV in the room. It was on MTV Classics and they were playing “The Evolution of Queen” which had some of their classics in chronological order. So you’d start off with the early stuff and view the transition they made over the years. Well, I found myself singing along and enjoying it so much that I insisted my dad take me out that weekend to get some of their albums. Well, I chose Greatest Hits I and II and then would see how it went from there. I stuck Greatest Hits I in the car and listened to Bo Rhap, which of course I enjoyed immensely and then BAM! I heard the opening clicks to Killer Queen and I was like ASDFGHJKL! What the FUCK have I been missing out on?! Mind you, I’m pretty sure I watched “The Days of Our Lives” documentary before I got the CDs and heard Killer Queen and thought wow, that sounds phenomenal. So that was the taster ;) I guess. All in all, I was completely mesmerized . I still am every time I hear their stuff, it will never get old… ever. So really, I’ve loved Queen for a long time and had a great appreciation for their music.

I am a proud Queenie through and through. I owe them a lot and I’m a better person because of these four beautiful boys.
