Yes yes, I’m learning about China at the turn of the century. Just found it equally ironic and humorous that Hong Xiuquan did not like foreigners, yet was a devout, practicing Christian and that Qing called upon the aid of British and French troops to combat the problem when China had a closed door policy. It’s all quite intriguing, however, and I do love the topic :)

If the Taiping Rebellion wasn’t the most contradicting thing in the whole entire world then I don’t know what was.
